Student Name: Kyra Lefebvre
Grade: Grade 12
Artist Statement: In this color pencil piece I capture my earliest Halloween memory. Like the journey of growing up, my drawing unfolds on black paper. As life begins with simplicity, the saturated hues represent the joys of childhood, gradually transitioning to deeper shades. My experience of entering adulthood can be seen with this piece, both maturity and innocence building who I am.

MAEA Art Educator Award
Organization or School Affiliation: Pentucket Regional High School

Student Name: Chloe Hurd
Grade: Grade 12
Artist Statement: Overmedicated, aims to display the perspective of many Americans who are wrongfully prescribed harmful medication and the reliance on medicine we have in the States. I collaged prescription bottle labels, using acrylic overtop to give the subject a more jarring, abstract look, and contrasting it with the background. I wanted a complex yet direct message, to reflect a dependency shared by so many.

Organization or School Affiliation: Wayland High School

Student Name: Tristen Chow
Grade: Grade 11
Artist Statement: When given the opportunity to create art, I tend to fall back to my roots and reach for inspiration from my family. This piece was created as an artistic ode to my Chinese heritage—but most importantly to highlight the admiration I have for my grandmother—through this etched adaptation of her old wedding bangles.

MAEA Art Educator Award
Organization or School Affiliation: Canton High School

Student Name: Hannah Isaac
Grade: Grade 12
Artist Statement: My piece embodies an unnatural influence, representing the hold time and stress holds over us. My subject's facial expression is neutral, but her body language and features contorted by the external force of her hands contrast it as she looks up to some unseen influence. I enjoyed expressing emotion through body language as well as color and lighting that reflected the mood of the piece.

Organization or School Affiliation: Somerset Berkley Regional High School

Student Name: Sydney Bednarz
Grade: Grade 12
Artist Statement: My work is a criticism of the glamorization of drugs in media targeted towards youth. These photos are intentionally overdone and glamorized to show the younger audience's perspective and acknowledge this is what the content looks like to kids and young adults. When artists and content creators make drug use "aesthetic," they need to be held accountable for the damage they inflict on youth.

Malignant Humans
Malignant Humans
Davis Publications Drawing Award
Organization or School Affiliation: Athol High School

Student Name: Sean Kelley
Grade: Grade 11
Artist Statement: This piece is of humanized Earth being killed by her own creations. We aren't yet at the point in which there is no hope, we can still resuscitate our dying planet. I worked with alcohol markers, watercolors, colored pencils, and tempera. To further the point cosmetic products were used. Wax-based chapstick and hydrophilic eyeliner were utilized to express the wastefulness of human consumption.

Two-Bit
Davis Publications Drawing Award
Organization or School Affiliation: Oliver Ames High School

Student Name: Abigail Holmes
Grade: Grade 11
Artist Statement: “Two-Bit” is a piece, done in colored pencil, centered around my tortoise, Two-Bit, as the title suggests. The piece highlights the upclose intricacies of animals and objects that we see in everyday life. Patterns, such as those in Two-Bit’s shell, often go unnoticed, so I decided to highlight him and his beautiful design. There is so much art in nature and Two-Bit’s shell really emphasizes that.

Growing Pains
Growing Pains
Davis Publications Painting Award
Organization or School Affiliation: Norwood High School

Student Name: Melissa Colella
Grade: Grade 12
Artist Statement: “Growing Pains” is an expression of the change in coming of age. Leaving childhood comes with discomfort and denial. The young woman in the painting is cramped into a baby’s crib—a symbol of childhood—with no apparent effort to get out. Keeping herself in this confined space does not stop the passage of time but limits her from finding peace in her next stage of life.

Consciousness, Chance, Change
Consciousness, Chance, Change
Davis Publications Mixed Media Award
Organization or School Affiliation: Groton-Dunstable Regional High School

Student Name: Amy Loveless
Grade: Grade 12
Artist Statement: The idea of this piece is how sometimes what you know best is actually hurting you the most, and although change can be scary, in the end, you'll be brighter and more colorful and shine more than you did before. I came to the conclusion of using three separate canvases' to demonstrate the three different stages we take in changing ourselves in these situations, Consciousness, Chance, and Change.

Eye of the Beholder
Davis Publications Photography Award
Organization or School Affiliation: Somerset Berkley Regional High School

Student Name: Kayla Casper
Grade: Grade 12
Artist Statement: Photography allows you to express yourself in different ways while communicating life experiences. This flipped photo makes me imagine that the person looking through the crystal ball is viewing both the past and present. By controlling the aperture of the camera and creating sharp focus on the hand and eye, I was able to capture a window as well as a detailed look into the eye of the subject.

Trip to the Aquarium
Davis Publications Digital/Graphic Designy Award
Organization or School Affiliation: Millis High School-Art Dept

Student Name: Lucian Hastings
Grade: Grade 12
Artist Statement: In this piece, I wanted to portray something breathtaking, that takes up your whole mind for a moment, letting you forget about everything else. As a kid, I loved to watch the sea creatures at the aquarium, my favorite being jellyfish. They seemed so peaceful, gracefully floating in the water. I could stare at them for hours, wondering what it would be like as a jellyfish, drifting through life.

Transcendence
Transcendence
Davis Publications Ceramics Award
Organization or School Affiliation: Franklin High School

Student Name: AMELIA DEWSNAP
Grade: Grade 12
Artist Statement: Transcendence showcases the spiritual connection found within the mind, body, and soul. Here, I sculpted a human head, which is glazed to reflect nature. Then, bright, metallic, and organic colored Raku orbs grow out of the body to highlight our spiritual awareness. Finally, all these components work together telling a story about our individual connections to the universe.

Davis Publications Sculpture Award
Organization or School Affiliation: Falmouth High School

Student Name: Amelia Donnelly
Grade: Grade 12
Artist Statement: This piece was inspired by a fall field trip as well as my grandparents' back yard. This stump was made by cutting fabric strips that were different colors and gluing them concentrically to a cardboard base. I then dyed more fabric strips to mimic bark patterns over a plaster and paper framework. Thread, marker and acrylic paints were used to add details.

Davis Publications Jewelry Award
Organization or School Affiliation: Wayland High School

Student Name: Dasha Tveretinova
Grade: Grade 12
Artist Statement: I saw this stone in New York and immediately knew that I wanted to make some sort of jewelry out of it. To set the stone I used prongs, which took a little while to get it right, but eventually I did it and was very happy with how it came out. The stone itself is very elegant, so I wanted to keep the design pretty simple, but clean so that the metalwork wouldn't clash with the stone.

Ceramic Corset
Ceramic Corset
Davis Publications Fashion Award
Organization or School Affiliation: Norwood High School

Student Name: Allie Murphy
Grade: Grade 12
Artist Statement: The piece I made is a ceramic corset. I sculpted the corset on my dress form. After the piece was fired I hand painted all the blue swirls onto it. My inspiration for this piece was the blue and white plates that my grandpa had. I wanted to portray this concept in my own personal way, which is clothing. Clothing/fabric is my usual medium so it was very interesting to explore a different material.

Keel-billed Toucan

Organization or School Affiliation: Falmouth High School

Student Name: Natasha Bradshaw
Grade: Grade 11
Artist Statement: I wanted it to have some representation of my country, Costa Rica that it is full of life and biodiversity including Keel-Billed Toucan. I started by slap-building this vase, sculpting the toucans, coating the vase in flashing slip, and creating circled, dotted, and oval sponge patterns to later add on top of the flashing slip with underglaze. This vase was soda-fired.
